Essential Information for Your Mission Trip to Costa Rica
We are excited to welcome you to Costa Rica for a life-changing mission trip with 6:8 Ministries. To ensure a smooth and safe experience, please review the following important information and guidelines.
Prepare for a Trip
Medical Information
Medical History and Release Forms
- Every participant must complete a Medical History and Release Form.
- For minors, the form must be signed by a parent or guardian.
- These forms are crucial for your safety and allow us to provide the best care in case of an emergency.
Insurance
- All participants are required to have health insurance that covers medical needs while in Costa Rica.
- Please check with your insurance provider to ensure your policy covers international travel. Most major providers cover up to 60 days of international travel.
- If your current health insurance does not cover international travel, you must purchase a temporary traveler insurance policy for the duration of your stay.
Water
- In most parts of Costa Rica, the water is safe to drink.
- We will inform you if you enter an area where the drinking water may be contaminated.
- Bottled water is readily available for purchase locally if needed.
Shots
- There are no required shots to enter Costa Rica.
- We recommend that each participant have a current tetanus shot.
- For the most current and accurate health information, please visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website.
Clinics & Hospitals
- We have established relationships with several clinics and doctors who can treat basic illnesses and provide basic prescriptions.
- These clinics are convenient and affordable.
- We are also within 10 miles of the two best hospitals in Costa Rica, known for their excellent healthcare services.
- The World Health Organization ranked Costa Rica’s healthcare system fifth in the world in a recent year, while the United States ranked ninth.
Pharmacies
- There are several pharmacies in the Alajuelita area.
- These pharmacies sell over-the-counter and prescription medicines. Often, you do not need a prescription, but we recommend bringing a copy of the original medicine container for all prescription medicines.
Additional Tips for Your Trip
- Pack Appropriately: Ensure you bring all necessary personal items, medications, and clothing suitable for a tropical climate.
- Stay Informed: Keep updated with travel advisories and health guidelines from reliable sources.
- Communicate: Let us know if you have any specific medical needs or concerns before your trip.
